Abstract

ABSTRACT The study evaluated the phytochemical and antioxidant contents of the plant Leptadeniahastata (Asclepiadaceae). phytochemical and antioxidant analysis were determine using standard analytical methods and parameters subjected to statistical analysis. The antioxidant analysis of vitamins and heavy metels revealed high concentration of vitamin E and A ,and low concentration of vitamin C, were heavy metel with high concentration of iron and Chromium, moderate concentration of Copper and Manganese while concentration of Zinc percentage were low. The phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, saponins and flavonoid. Cardiac glycoside and anthraquinones were not detected in the sample investigated.aL.hastata is often used for hypertension, catarrh, skin diseases, wound healing, prostate complaints and aphrodisiac. In traditional system of medicine different parts are used including the leaves, latex, roots and even whole plant. This revealed describes the medicinal properties, chemical constituents, and other important aspects of L. hastata..
