Abstract
The title of this project is “the influence of teaching methods on the learning of English in some selected secondary schools in Sokoto metropolis”, The objective of the project work was to find out the relationship between methods of teaching and students academic performance in English Language, also, factors to be consider in choosing methods of teaching in teaching of English language. This research project provides the answer to the impact of methods teaching in teaching of English language.
Hence, the research was a survey research which employed questionnaire as instrument to gather data. To ensure this some selected Secondary Schools in Sokoto Metropolis was used as the area of studies. The population used 26 schools which the population of 228 English teachers, 15,145 students. This study therefore toke sample of 10 schools, 150 respondents with comprise of 100 students and 50 teachers. The major findings of the work were that both students and teachers agreed that there is influence of methods of teaching in teaching of English Language and also both teachers and students agree that instructional materials have influence in methods of teaching in teaching of English Language. This study therefore gives same recommendation among others that can ameliorate the problems, that teachers should make use of methods of teaching that will influence teaching of English Language, and that schools should employ qualify and competent teacher
