CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH AND FULFULDE CONSONANT SOUNDS AND CONSONANT CLUSTERS

Abstract

Consonant sounds and Consonant clusters is one of the major aspects of English and Fulfulde phonology. And phonology is one of the basic tools for linguistics analysis. It is an individual sounds organization, patterning, arrangement and coding in line with certain rules of that language. Consonant sounds refer to the unit of speech produced. It also refers to the sounds that are produced by an obstruction of the air from the lungs in the oral cavity. English and Fulfulde share certain features and are in contrast as well (in terms of their Consonant sounds). In view of this, Consonant sounds and clusters of both languages will be compared and analyzed in order to bring out their similarities and dissimilarities. The purpose of this research, data (from both English and Fulfulde languages) will be drawn from both primary and secondary sources and it will be analyzed comparatively.
