PREFACE
This document serves as a vital guide for postgraduate students,
detailing the rules and regulations governing postgraduate
programmes at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto
(UDUS). It outlines the academic regulations and documentation
requirements at the College of Postgraduate Studies, Faculty, and
Departmental levels, ensuring clarity and consistency in the
administration of postgraduate studies.
In addition to its primary audience of postgraduate students, this
document is an indispensable resource for prospective students,
members of the university community, and the general public
seeking information on higher degrees and postgraduate diploma
programmes offered by the university.
The need for periodic revision of these regulations is paramount
to reflect current academic standards, institutional policies, and
global best practices. Thus, at its 148th meeting held on 27th July
2023, the Board of the College of Postgraduate Studies, under the
outstanding leadership of the former Provost, Prof. A. S.
Abdullahi, established a high-powered committee comprising
distinguished and experienced university staff. The committee
was tasked with revising the existing Students’ Guide on
Regulations for Higher Degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas to
produce a comprehensive and up-to-date document. Through
Prof. Abdullahi’s dedication, guidance, and steadfast
commitment, the revised guide incorporates all updated
components of the College of Postgraduate Studies’ academic
regulations, presented clearly and concisely to facilitate easy
understanding for both current and prospective students as well as
other stakeholders.
The committee submitted a draft report, which was reviewed and
approved at the Postgraduate Management Committee meeting on
31st December 2024, on behalf of the Board of the College of
Postgraduate Studies. The final document was subsequently

presented to the University Senate for ratification and approval
through the Academic Planning Committee.
I am confident that these Revised Regulations, when adhered to,
will significantly enhance the experience of our postgraduate
students and all stakeholders involved in the operations of the
College of Postgraduate Studies. By promoting effective and
efficient service delivery in line with global best practices, this
document will contribute to the continued success and excellence
of postgraduate education at UDUS.
On behalf of the Board of the College of Postgraduate Studies, I
extend our deepest gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bashiru
Garba, and his management team for their unwavering support
and encouragement, which played a pivotal role in bringing this
document to fruition.
As the new Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, I wish
to place on record my sincere appreciation to my predecessor and
his team, Prof. A. S. Abdullahi, for their remarkable efforts in
leading the review and update of these regulations. His vision and
hard work have laid a strong foundation upon which we will
continue to build.
Finally, we acknowledge and appreciate the dedication and
contributions of all individuals who, directly or indirectly,
participated in the revision and publication of this essential
document. Their efforts have ensured that this guide remains a
reliable resource for the conduct of postgraduate training at the
Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, for both current and
prospective students.
