WOMAN AS A VICTIM IN OKPEWHO'S THE LAST DUTY

Abstract

Over a long period of time in Africa, women have been degraded and deprived of their rights and freedom, socially and economically. In regards to all these forms of degradation, this work examines patriarchy ability to deform woman in Okpewho’s The Last Duty and affirms the centrality of choice as the basic weapon in her struggle for meaningful existence in the new millennium. Since the fundamental structures in the society have pushed her to the periphery of existence. Isidore Okepwho depicts the actual image of women in African literature, by placing the woman where she has always been made to serve among the poor and weak people in reference to The Last Duty. This research work contains four (4) chapters; the first chapter is the introduction, which comprises of the aims and objectives, scope and limitation, research methodology and brief biography. Chapter two (2) is the literature review; it includes collection of different novels on how women are treated in Africa.
