| dc.description.abstract | This research sought to analyze the role of instructional materials in teaching and learning of English language. In some of selected secondary schools in Sokoto South local Government. A total population of (17,343) students and (84) English language teachers in selected Schools in Sokoto South local Government were used. A sample of (1077) students and (43) English teachers were used to answer the questionnaires. Using descriptive statistics, the teachers’ questionnaire consisted of (18) items sought to identified, while the students questionnaire sought to identify (14) items. Based on the findings of the study, the researchers drew some conclusion that all the schools under this study had a number of instructional materials but they were limited and inadequate to some extent the available materials usually found in the schools were the visual materials which almost all the teachers used them in their teaching process and if the instructional materials are not available or inadequate for the teaching of English they usually improvised them if the need arises. Similarly, the application of instructional materials in teaching and learning of English language motivates the students interest effectively but the government was showing blind eye in terms of provision of the materials to the schools, it was the students under the directives of their teachers that usually provided the available ones found in the schools; and also, none of the schools under the study had language laboratory, which is a vital tool in assessing students language speech. | |
