dc.description.abstractAllergic rhinitis (AR) is a globally prevalent inflammatory disorder of the nasal mucosa triggered by immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated hypersensitivity reactions. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antiallergic effects of an aqueous leaf extract of G. senegalensis by determining its effect on systemic serum IgE levels in an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic rhinitis Wistar rats Twenty-five Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control group, positive control group, and low-, medium- and high-dose Guiera senegalensis group, 4 rats in each group. In the later 4 groups, the AR was induced by intraperitoneal injection with ovalbumin suspension. On the 2, 4 and 6 d of experiment, the animal behavior score was measured. On the last day, the peripheral blood was taken, and the serum Immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels were determined using ELISA. Statistical analysis utilized one-way ANOVA with a chi-square test, with statistical significance set at p<0.05. The analysis revealed a significant difference between each of the three plant extract groups (p<0.05), indicating a dose-dependent effect of the extract on IgE suppression. The aqueous leaf extract of Guiera senegalensis exhibits significant antiallergic effects by dose-dependently suppressing serum IgE levels in OVA-induced allergic rhinitis Wistar rats.
