T Chronic kidney disease (CKD) consists of a wide spectrum of conditions associated with a progressive decline in kidney functions and abnormal glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Recent studies suggest that Hepatic diseases are common among chronic kidney disease patients and liver function tests particularly serum liver enzymes play an important role in diagnosing and monitoring these patients. Serum aminotransferase levels commonly fall near the lower end of the range of the normal values in patients of chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study is carried out to determine the level of some markers of tissue damage (LDH and AST) in CKD patients and health individuals (control). And also to compare the serum LDH and AST level of CKD patients with that of control. This study is a retrospective, hospital based study which was carried out from 50 subjects, the level of AST and LDH was determined by Automated kinetic method using Automated machine (Chemray120). The study revealed that AST level are significantly lower in CKD patients compared to control where as LDH levels was found to be higher in CKD patients. Finally, the study reinforces the fact that serum aminitransferase levels tends to remain lower in CKD patients compared to the normal population, and hence established a need for further studies to explore the causal links between CKD severity and lowering of serum aminotransferases specifically AST and ALP.
