Abstract

This research focuses on regional and social variations of English language in Nigeria,a case study Hausa speakers of English department of modern European language and linguistics, Usmanu danfodiyo university, Sokotowith particular reference to spoken English where the variation is noticeablein Hausa.This is referred to mainly in consideration of the local variations in English language. The variations are seen as inevitable because of the nature of the Nigerian society. The difference in phonological, lexical and syntactic variations particularly to the different local environments will be discussed Language inter-landing between the regional Language and English language are also considered in relation to the lexical variations. Finally, the research recommends that the language students should focus on the area of differences between the local language and English language for contrastive studies in order to make thelanguage easier. Thelanguage suggests that the different local varieties of English language in Nigeria should be brought together and standardized in order to eventually evolve a Nigerian Standard English (NSE)
