dc.description.abstractThis research work examined the effect of high enrolment on primary school pupils’ academic performance in Sokoto North Local Government Area, Sokoto State. There are four (4) research objectives and research questions for the study. The population of the study consist of 297 teachers and parents. The sample size selected were 35 respondents using simple random sampling. Instrument used for the study was a questionnaire of 20 items divided in to five sections giving to both teachers and parents. The instrument was validated by two lecturers in the department and reliability coefficient of 0.7 was realized. The data was analyzed using inferential statistics and simple percentage. The findings from the four research questions clearly indicated that high rate of pupils’ enrolment negatively affect the academic performance of primary school pupils through inefficient classroom management, problems of class attendance, inadequate instructional materials and inadequate classrooms. Base on the findings, the study recommended that government and community initiative should try as much as possible to overcome the problems of high rate of pupil’s enrolment in Sokoto North Local Government Area, Sokoto State, Nigeria.
