RELATIONSHIP AMONG MOTIVATION, JOB SATISFACTION AND TEACHER PERFORMANCE IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN TAMBUWAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA: SOKOTO STATE NIGERIA

Abstract

ABTRACT This study investigated the relationship among motivation, job satisfaction and teacher performance in senior secondary schools in Tambuwal local government Area. The research design of correlational type was used. The population of the study was 329 teachers. A sample of 152 teachers were randomly selected. Three instruments were used for data collection, named Career Motivation Questionnaire (CMQ) Job Satisfaction (JSQ) and Teacher Performance Questionnaire (TPQ). All the instruments were validated with a reliability indexes of 0.76, 0.77 and 0.78 respectively. Pearson product moment coefficient for Ho1, Ho2 and Ho3 while Ho4 was tested with multiple regression analysis. The findings of the study revealed that there was positive correlation between motivation and job satisfaction, and high positive correlation between job satisfaction and teacher performance and high positive correlation between motivation and Teacher Performance and high positive correlation among motivation, job satisfaction and Teacher performance in senior secondary schools in Tambuwal local Government Area. The study also found that job satisfaction was a better predictor of Teacher performance then motivation. The study recommended that Sokoto State Ministry of Education and principals should motivate through training and re-training to enhance their performance as well as to provide welfare packages such as car loan, housing loan and other things that will enhance productivity. Conclusively this study indicates that there is positive significant relationship among motivation, job satisfaction and teacher performance in senior secondary schools in Tambuwal Local government Area.
