Abstract

ABSTRACT The study analysed the farmers perceived effects of climate change on vegetable crops farming in Katsina State, Nigeria. Multistage sampling was used to select the study area, while random sampling was used to select 189 vegetable crops farmers as the sample size of the study. Structured questionnaire was used for data collection, while descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis .The study reveals that the majority of vegetable crop farmers were males (92.6%), married (86.8%), aged between 46-65 years (66.1), family size (44.4%) between 6-10 member with farming experience (51.3%) between 15-20 years. The study also reveals that the majority of vegetable crop farmers (66.7%) was the farming practices contributing to climate change. Thus, tomato was the vegetable crop (45.0%) must affected by climate change. Poor crop yields (50.7%) was the adverse effects if climate change on vegetable crop farming. Mix cropping (52.4%) was the adaptation measures of vegetable crops farmers. Inadequatefinancial resources (47.8) was the constraints of vegetable crop farmers adaptation measures. The null hypothesis was accepted (F-calculated value =2.11< F- tabulated =3.33) at 5%level of significance. The study recommended that the vegetable crop farmers should adjust the planting date due to late on set of rainfall.
