This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the knowledge and practice of the Quality Assurance (QA) program for conventional X-ray equipment among radiographers in Sokoto Metropolis, Nigeria. The need for this study was driven by the goal of ensuring optimal diagnostic information with the lowest possible radiation exposure (ALARA principle), and the observed gap in empirical data regarding the knowledge and practice of QA in the region. A total of 32 radiographers in Sokoto Metropolis participated in the study. Data was collected using a questionnaire to assess both their knowledge of QA principles and their practical application of these programs. The key findings revealed a significant disparity between knowledge and practice: Knowledge of QA: Only 46.9% of the radiographers demonstrated good knowledge of QA programs, while 53.1% had poor knowledge. Gaps in knowledge were particularly noted in areas such as daily QA checks (12.5% correct), recommended actions when machines fail standards (15.6% correct), and documentation. Practice of QA: In contrast, 71.8% of the respondents demonstrated good QA practices. The majority reported performing routine Quality Control (QC) tests (90.6%) and participating in scheduled maintenance (78.1%). However, deficiencies were noted in practices such as maintaining comprehensive QA documentation (43.7% compliance), using daily checklists (28.1% compliance), and regularly evaluating patient dose levels (56.3% compliance). The study concludes that radiographers in Sokoto Metropolis generally practice quality assurance better than they understand it, suggesting a significant knowledge-practice gap. This inconsistency may lead to poor documentation and inconsistent application of standards. The findings highlight an urgent need for continuous professional development, regulatory oversight, and the provision of standardized QA tools and training to ensure compliance with international standards and bridge this gap
