Abstract

This research work titles Morphological Analysis of the language of social media; Facebook as a case study. Morpheme (Word) serves as foundation for a linguistic analysis at any level of language study. The aim of this essay is to examining the language used by facebook users, paying great attention to the internal structure of words of some selected posts and comments. Some topics of social media related to facebook are also employed to reveal the relationship between facebook, its users and how language is created and used on facebook posts and comments. Among the findings in the work is informal language is regularly than formal language on facebook. It is also discovered that most of the words are coined through initialisms and obscure words are rampant. The conclusion in the essay is said that the language use on facebook shows the ingenuity of facebook users
