Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study investigated the Relationship between Teachers’ Motivation, Students’ Interest and Academic Performance of Senior Secondary School Physics Students in Sokoto State, Nigeria. The study was a correlational research design. Population of the study comprised of 119 Senior Schools in Sokoto State with a total population of 23,730 senior secondary school (SS2) students and 136 Physics teachers. Stratified random sampling was used to select twenty- four (24) senior secondary schools from the educational zone of Sokoto state, three hundred and fifty seven (357) senior secondary school students and fifty three (53) Physics teachers were sampled and used in the study. Three instruments were used for the study which include (PTMQ), (SIQ) and (SPPT). Cronbach Alpha was used to obtain a reliability coefficient of 0.83 for (PTMQ), test retest was used to 0.81 for (SIQ) and test retest method was used to obtain 0.9 for (SPPT) respectively. Six research objectives, six research questions and three null hypotheses were formulated. Research question were answered using descriptive statistics. The three null hypotheses were tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). Findings from the study disclosed that there is significant Relationship between variables of the study. All the three null hypotheses tested were rejected. Based on the findings the study recommended that; Government should try to motivate physics teachers through incentives such as science allowances which will keep them comfortable in the classroom.
