INVESTIGATING MORALITY ISSUES AMONG FEMALE STUDENTS IN ISLAMIYYAH SCHOOLS IN WAMAKKO LOCAL GOVERNMENT, SOKOTO STATE

Abstract

This research investigated morality issues among female students in Islamiyyah schools in Wamakko Local Government, Sokoto. The Population of the study included all the 1,850 teachers in the 175 Islamiyyah schools in Wamakko Local Government, Sokoto. However, 100 teachers and 10 schools were randomly selected using simple random sampling technique. The instrument used was a self-structured questionnaire. The data was analyzed using table, frequency and percentage. The results of the study among others indicated that immoral acts such as a. lateness, b. absence from school, c. pilfering, d. truancy, e. gossiping, f. bullying, g. disrespect among others exist among female students in Islamiyyah schools. It was observed that the level of students' involvement in truancy, lateness, absenteeism, disrespect, bullying and gossip are very high. The causes of immoral acts among female students in islamiyyah schools are, careless attitude of parents, peer group influence, poor value system in the society, inability of parents to allocate quality time for their wards, large class size among others. Moreover, the strategies to control these immoral acts include role modeling and counseling, Parents-Teacher Association (PTA) meetings, necessary support from government to Islamiyyah schools, instilling fear of Allah in students, proper punishment for immoral students and decent reward for moral students.
