ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF MAIZE PRODUCTION IN SHINKAFI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ZAMFARA STATE

Abstract

ABSTRACT The broad objective of the study was to conduct economic analysis of maize production in shinkafi local Government area of Zamfara state. The specific objective were: to describe the socio economic characteristics of the respondents, to determine cost and return of maize production in the study area, to determine the resources use efficiency in maize production and analyze the input and out put relationship in maize production system. And describe constraints in maize production faced by the farmers. The data were collected from 100 respondents through a purposely a sampling techniques using structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools, net farm income, marginal analysis, production function as well as the likert scale. The result showed that the 99% of the sampled maize production farmers were male, the study further shows that the maize production was profitable going by net farm income N 83,6675.4per hectare. Similarly the result shows that the labor and agro chemicals were underlized. The result also reveals that the most important problems in maize production of the study area was lack of finance. (97%) base on finding of the study is recommended that the policy maker should consider maize production because is profitable enterprises in the study area.
