Abstract

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) play a vital role in modern radiography practice, enhancing digital imaging processes, data storage, research activities, and clinical decision-making. Despite its increasing importance in healthcare delivery, limited information exists regarding the level of ICT knowledge and utilization among radiography students in Nigerian universities. This study assessed the level of knowledge and utilization of ICT among radiography students at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto. A descriptive cross-sectional study design was adopted, and a stratified random sampling technique was used to select 195 respondents from a total population of 380 students. Data were collected using a structured, close-ended questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics in SPSS version 28. The findings revealed that the majority of respondents possessed basic ICT knowledge, with over 70% demonstrating familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. However, the extent of ICT utilization was moderate, as most students reported using ICT facilities for less than five hours per week. Academic research and assignments were the primary purposes of ICT use. Major challenges affecting effective utilization included poor power supply, inadequate computer hardware, limited internet access, insufficient ICT infrastructure, and financial constraints. The study concludes that although radiography students have foundational ICT knowledge and recognize its importance, infrastructural and systemic barriers limit optimal utilization. It is recommended that institutional authorities invest in improved ICT infrastructure, stable electricity supply, enhanced internet access, and structured ICT training programs to strengthen students’ digital competencies and better prepare them for modern radiography practice.
