Abstract
This research endeavor conducted an assessment of the concentrations of specific heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cr, Fe, Cu, and Ni) within soil and surface water samples sourced from the Kantin Daji region of Sokoto State. The samples underwent analysis utilizing Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) methodologies. The observed concentrations (mg/L) in the water samples included Fe (0.034), Cu (0.004), Cd (0.001), Pb (0.003), and Ni (0.001). In parallel, the corresponding soil concentrations (mg/kg) were identified as Fe (0.578), Cu (0.488), Cd (0.01), Pb (0.028), and Ni (0.01), while Cr was undetectable in both the surface water and soil samples. A comparative analysis against WHO/FDA regulatory limits revealed heightened levels of Fe and Cu, indicating a potential risk of environmental contamination.
